Furniture Upholstery Class
At Jerome Shorter Furniture, we believe that the art of upholstery should be shared as well as celebrated. Our furniture upholstery classes are designed to give you first-hand experience of working with traditional techniques in a real workshop environment. Whether you are an absolute beginner or already familiar with design and making, our classes give you the opportunity to learn alongside master upholsterers who care deeply about their craft.
Each class offers a balance of creativity, guidance and practice. You will learn how to handle tools, understand fabrics and apply upholstery methods that have been perfected over generations. More than just a class, it is an immersive experience where you gain confidence, build skills and complete a project you can take home with pride.
Our workshop in Tunbridge Wells provides the perfect setting. Surrounded by professional upholsterers and beautiful examples of our work, you will quickly feel inspired to create something unique. Every session is kept deliberately small, so you receive close attention and personalised advice at every stage of your learning.

What You Can Expect
Each class begins with a warm introduction to our workshop, followed by demonstrations of key techniques. From there, you will work on your own project with the support of our upholsterers. You will learn how to strip back furniture, prepare frames, handle fabrics and apply finishes that last. By the end of your session, you will have transformed an item with your own hands and discovered just how rewarding upholstery can be.
Our classes also provide insight into the wider world of design and furniture making. Many students find themselves inspired to continue learning or to start refreshing furniture at home. For others, it is simply a creative retreat, an enjoyable way to spend time in a professional studio while making something truly personal.
