The Jerome Shorter Process
We approach every project with fresh eyes and open ears. We listen intently to what the client is telling us and then work with them to produce luxury upholstery they will cherish for years to come. But while we take a bespoke attitude toward every job the overall process tends to unfold in the following familiar fashion:
The initial enquiry
This is when you, the client, contact us and let us know what we can do for you. You can have a choice of calling the workshop during normal business hours or emailing us, in which case we will get back to you promptly. The more information you can provide the better. And if you have photos you can send along with your initial inquiry, better still. Whether you have a William & Mary Walnut Armchair, an Edwardian Hepplewhite Sofa or a unique piece of custom furniture created to your specifications we can provide the luxury upholstery it needs to bring it to dazzling life.
The site visit
After we establish the general parameters of the project during the initial consultation we typically ask to arrange a site visit. The site visit enables us to get a feel for the piece or pieces of furniture and to see it or them in context. And unless you want a straight-up recreation of the original upholstery (which is certainly fine) context will be vital because every setting presents its own set of variables in the form of lighting, spatial volume, floor coverings and other furnishings all of which have a bearing on how the finished upholstery will be perceived.
Concepting the upholstery
By now we have discussed the project at some length and had an opportunity to see the furniture in person and in context. The next step on the road to world-class luxury upholstery is to develop a series of concept drawings that express different possibilities regarding texture, colour, patterning and the like. If what you desire is to recreate the original upholstery we undertake extensive research to ensure we present only appropriate materials for your consideration. Once a concept has been agreed upon we proceed to the next step.
Creating the upholstery
Once the client has approved the final concept necessary materials are ordered. When we have everything we need to commence work you can expect the project to be completed in 4 – 6 weeks. Once the upholstery is finished you have the option of picking up the pieces at our workshop or having the furniture delivered to your home or place of business.
